B. Sudarshan Reddy Files Nomination for Vice President Post, Backed by Sonia Gandhi and Key Opposition Leaders

Former judge B. Sudarshan Reddy, the opposition's candidate for the vice presidential election, has filed his nomination papers. 80 leaders of the India Block signed Reddy's nomination papers as proposers.

National News: Preparations are in full swing for the election of the Vice President of India to be held on 9 September 2025. Former judge B. Sudarshan Reddy has filed his nomination papers on behalf of the opposition for the election of the post of vice president. Many opposition leaders were present on this occasion. 

Sonia Gandhi, Congress President and Rajya Sabha leader Mallikarjun Kharge, SP leader Ramgopal Yadav, and NCP chief Sharad Pawar were also seen together. Sudarshan Reddy filed nomination in four sets. The set included 20 proposers and 20 supporters.

United Opposition Endorses Reddy

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge described Reddy as a progressive and constitutionally committed jurist. Reddy's name was unanimously approved by the India Block, which included the Congress, Samajwadi Party, DMK, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Aam Aadmi Party, and other allies. Reddy's nomination papers were signed by 80 opposition leaders, including heavyweights like Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, DMK MP Tiruchi Siva, and Samajwadi Party MP Ramgopal Yadav.

NDA Bets On Radhakrishnan

On the other hand, the NDA has fielded senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu and current Governor of Maharashtra CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate. Radhakrishnan's political and administrative experience makes him a trusted face of the ruling coalition. The NDA has promoted Radhakrishnan's candidature as a representation of South India, especially Tamil Nadu and the OBC community.

Modi Leads Radhakrishnan Nomination

During his nomination, senior leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP President JP Nadda were present. Radhakrishnan filed his nomination in four sets, which included 20 proposers and 20 seconders. PM Modi was his main proposer.
